I never want to forget the eyelashes, the freckles, the way they swing on the swingset with abandon — the details that make them THEM today, this week, this month. Do you? I never want to forget the small “things” that define them today, this week, this month — his favorite bear, those pink boots she even sleeps in. At the same time, I also wish I could go back in time to photograph my grandmother’s precious tea cup as a still life artwork before it was accidentally smashed during a move. If I had thought to do that, a beautiful and meaningful photograph would be hanging on my wall right now. I missed an opportunity there that I cannot get back.
I’ve always been this type of person, striving to capture, preserve and document “the now” in my own way. I have boxes of journals in my garage, dating from the second grade to prove it! Some may argue it’s an affliction, LOL. :-)
Though time has marched on since the second grade— I am now a mother, a wife, a non-profit professional — I remain committed to capturing the fleeting moments in the hopes that I can share the stories later. I tend to see beauty in the everyday that others may not. I believe that details contain the art of our everyday lives.
A little about me…I once pursued an MFA in creative writing and wrote short stories. But then I had children and discovered the joy of photography and the joy of telling my daughters’ everyday stories using this amazing visual medium. I practiced a ton and sought out formal training and education to hone my skills over the years. But at the end of the day, my work truly comes from my heart.
Random FACTS about me:
I have lived in 5 cities throughout my life (so far…) — NYC, Philadelphia, Chicago, Hamburg and Berlin. I love them all for different reasons.
My eldest daughter was almost born on the front seat of our VW (an exciting but truly terrifying experience...!!)
My husband and I met because we were both studying Psychology AND German Lit as undergrads. (Yup, random...). We now use our German to "speak in code" to each other in front of our daughters..
We have a naughty golden retriever named Finnegan.
I look forward to meeting you to start capturing your heirloom moments!
